Product type and intended use

The VideoSecu VD49HK is a wired analog dome camera built for CCTV systems that record to a DVR. It captures 480 TV lines of resolution through a 1/3 inch CCD sensor and switches automatically between colour daytime footage and black-and-white night vision using 36 infrared LEDs. The package includes the camera, a 12 V DC power supply and a warning sticker.

Suitable installations and limitations

This camera suits installers who need a varifocal lens adjustable from 4 to 9 mm to set the exact field of view on site. It is not for buyers who want a stand-alone IP device, wireless connectivity or recording without a separate DVR. It also does not suit projects that require HD-SDI, TVI or CVI signals because the video output is standard BNC composite only.

Deciding specification

The single specification that determines compatibility is the 480 TV line analog output over a BNC connector. If the recorder accepts only digital network streams or higher-resolution analog formats such as 720p or 1080p, this camera will not integrate without additional conversion hardware.

Questions about this item

What size mounting holes or bracket does the VD49HK dome camera need?

The tri-axis dome enclosure mounts directly to a ceiling or wall; adjust the camera direction by loosening the external screws without removing the housing.

How do I set the 4-9 mm varifocal lens during installation, and what step is often missed?

Turn the external zoom and focus screws while watching the live feed on the DVR; the step many miss is re-checking focus after the IR LEDs switch on at night.

Which parts of the VD49HK will need replacement first in long-term outdoor use?

The 36 infrared LEDs and the 12 V DC power supply are the typical wear items; the sealed CCD sensor and lens assembly rarely require service.
