This SATA power Y-splitter turns one 15-pin male connector into two 15-pin female connectors so a single PSU lead can feed two drives. It is built for 2.5-inch SSDs, 3.5-inch HDDs and optical drives that use standard SATA power ports. The cable is not intended for any other interface and the supplier warns that mis-connection can damage components.

Capacity and headroom

Each branch carries the full 5-wire set including the 3.3 V line, so drives that require 3.3 V power will start correctly. The 18 AWG conductors and 2.1 mm outer diameter limit voltage drop on typical consumer drives, but very long daisy-chains or high-spin-up-current arrays may exceed the wire’s comfort zone.
