WD Purple 2TB Surveillance Drive

The Western Digital WD20PURX is a 2TB 3.5 inch internal hard drive built for 24/7 surveillance workloads. It uses a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface, spins at 5400 RPM and includes a 64MB cache. AllFrame technology helps improve streaming performance across multiple cameras.

Ideal for multi-camera NVR systems

This drive suits installers running up to 32 HD cameras in write-intensive, low bit-rate environments. It supports workloads up to 180TB per year and handles more than eight drive bays. Builders needing faster random access for operating systems or general desktop storage should consider a different drive class.

Fits standard 3.5 inch drive bays

The bare drive measures 147.00mm long, 101.60mm wide and 26.10mm high, matching common surveillance chassis. A SATA data cable and a SATA power connector are required to operate it. Using this drive for surveillance recording frees up separate storage for archives or backups.

Questions about this item

What does my system need to provide for this 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s drive to work?

A free 3.5" drive bay, a SATA data cable, and a SATA power connector from the power supply.

Can I mix this surveillance drive with older desktop drives in the same enclosure?

Yes, each drive runs on its own SATA link; the 5400 RPM spindle and 64MB cache operate independently of other drives.

How do I confirm the 2TB capacity and AllFrame technology are active after installation?

The BIOS or OS disk utility will show the full 2TB capacity, and SMART data will report the drive model WD20PURX with its 180TB/year workload rating.
