This adapter pair carries USB 2.0 signals over standard Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 patch cable up to 150 feet. It connects USB cameras, printers, keyboards, mice or similar peripherals to a host computer without installing drivers. The local unit has a USB Type A male and RJ45 female; the remote unit has a USB Type A female and RJ45 female.

Distance limit with cable quality

The link reaches the full 150 feet only when the patch cable uses copper conductors of at least .5 mm core diameter. With ordinary cable the reliable range drops to 30 feet; beyond that the connection becomes unstable and may fall back to USB 1.1 speed.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous use the adapter remains self-powered and draws no external supply. If a bus-powered hard drive is attached, the voltage drop over long cable runs can prevent it from operating; a dual-head USB charger cable at the remote end restores reliable operation.
