This adapter connects a DB9 RS232 female serial port to an RJ45 female network socket. It lets technicians extend serial signals over standard CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet cabling. The passive unit requires no external power supply. It suits industrial, networking and legacy equipment setups.

Signal Reach and Cable Types

Signals travel up to 100 ft over CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cables. The adapter handles the 232 serial protocol through the twisted-pair medium. Beyond that distance the signal degrades and a powered extender becomes necessary. It does not convert Ethernet packets to serial data.
