PS5 Games and Special Editions

What a Deluxe or Limited edition really adds

Editions of one game share the same core campaign; the extras are what change. Deluxe and launch editions usually add cosmetic items, bonus missions or an early unlock, while limited editions tend to add physical collectibles. This list uses labels such as Standard, Launch, Limited and Zeno, so read what the extra actually is: a download code, a printed item or content on the disc. If you only want the game itself, the standard edition is complete, and sports titles are refreshed every year, so check the season in the name.

Two checks before you pick: disc drive and age rating

A boxed PS5 game normally comes on a disc, and the PS5 Digital Edition console has no disc drive, so confirm which console you own. Ratings come from the ESRB: E is Everyone, E10+ suits ages ten and up, T is Teen, and M is Mature, for ages 17 and up; RP means Rating Pending, a placeholder before the final label appears. Genre tags such as action-adventure, RPG, fighting and sports tell you the style quickly, but online modes may need an active console subscription, which is separate from the disc.

Questions about PS5 Games and Special Editions

Will a PS5 game run on a PS4?

No. A game made for the PS5 will not start on a PS4. Some titles are released for both consoles, so check that the listing names the PS5 version and not the PS4 one.

What does RP - Rating Pending mean?

It means the ESRB has not yet assigned a final age rating. It is common on titles announced before release. Check the rating on the finished product before giving it to a child, since the final rating can be stricter.

Is a Deluxe edition worth it over Standard?

Only if you want the extras. The main game is normally identical, so a Deluxe edition mostly adds cosmetics, bonus missions or bundled expansions. If those do not interest you, choose the standard edition.
