Built for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop powered by an Intel Core i7 8th Gen processor running at 1.90GHz. It comes with 32GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, running Windows 10 Pro. The non-touch display has a 1366 x 768 resolution and uses integrated Intel HD Graphics 620.

Thermals and power profile

Integrated graphics and a 1.90GHz base frequency keep heat output modest during typical office workloads. The fanless GPU section means no additional noise from graphics processing under light use. Power draw scales with the CPU load, staying within the limits of a standard ultrabook-class thermal design.

Display resolution constraint

The 1366 x 768 panel limits on-screen workspace and detail compared to higher-density screens. Buyers who need more pixels for multi-window work or crisp text should consider a different model. The LED backlight and wide UXGA format are fixed by the chassis.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the Latitude 5490 and which step is often missed?

The laptop has two memory slots with 32GB already installed. The step often missed is seating both modules firmly until the retention clips click, otherwise the system will not recognise the extra capacity.

Which component in the Latitude 5490 will need replacement first?

The 512GB SSD is the part most likely to require replacement after heavy write cycles, while the 32GB memory and Intel HD Graphics 620 are soldered or integrated and not user-replaceable.

What limit appears first when the Core i7 1.90GHz runs sustained workloads?

The Intel HD Graphics 620 shares system memory and thermal headroom with the CPU, so graphics-intensive tasks hit thermal throttling and shared-memory bandwidth limits before the processor reaches its own ceiling.
