Business ultraportable

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need a compact Windows 10 Pro machine. It pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8GB of DDR4 2400 memory and a 256GB solid-state drive for responsive everyday performance.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 15W quad-core CPU reaches a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20 GHz but will throttle under continuous heavy load to stay within its thermal envelope. Integrated UHD Graphics shares system memory, so extended rendering or video tasks reduce bandwidth available to the processor.

Deciding specification

The 256GB SSD capacity determines whether this unit can hold your working set of applications and files without external storage. Buyers who need more storage should consider a larger drive configuration.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the i7-8650U produce when the 14" Latitude 7490 runs all day?

The i7-8650U is a 15 W quad-core chip with a 4.20 GHz turbo; the 60 Wh battery and 65 W adapter show the thermal envelope Dell designed for continuous office workloads.

What memory must I already have to upgrade the 8 GB of DDR4 2400 soldered in this 7490?

The system ships with 8 GB of DDR4 2400; one SO-DIMM slot is free, so a matching DDR4 2400 module is the only type that will work.

Can the Thunderbolt 3 port on this 7490 drive a legacy DisplayPort monitor I still use?

Thunderbolt 3 carries native DisplayPort 1.2 signalling, so a passive USB-C to DisplayPort cable will run your older monitor at its full resolution.
