Mobile workstation with dual storage

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation running Windows 10 Pro. It combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics with 4 GB GDDR5. Storage comprises a 512 GB M.2 drive and a 1 TB SSD. The FHD IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut.

Suited for GPU-accelerated workloads

Engineers and creators using CAD, DCC or simulation software that benefits from certified Quadro drivers will find the P2000 a capable match. Buyers who need more video memory for large scenes or who require a touchscreen for direct input should consider other configurations. The non-touch display and fixed 16 GB RAM also limit appeal for memory-heavy virtualisation.

Sustained load with dual-fan cooling

The manufacturer highlights a dual-fan thermal design intended to maintain airflow during extended compute and render sessions. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays without taxing the internal GPU. Under continuous load the six-core CPU can reach 4.80 GHz turbo while the cooling system works to stabilise clock speeds.

Questions about this item

Do I need a Thunderbolt dock to use the Thunderbolt 3 port on this laptop?

No, the Thunderbolt 3 port works with standard USB-C devices and cables; a dock is only required if you want to connect multiple peripherals or external displays through a single cable.

Will my older USB 3.0 flash drives work with the USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports?

Yes, the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are fully backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 drives, so existing flash drives will function at their rated speeds.

How can I confirm the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 is active after setup?

Open Device Manager or the NVIDIA Control Panel; the Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 should appear as the dedicated GPU, and driver version details will confirm it is operating correctly.
