Precision 5530 workstation overview

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It ships with 16 GB DDR4 memory and dual storage comprising a 512 GB M.2 drive plus a 1 TB SSD. The 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS touchscreen covers 72 percent color gamut. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for immediate professional use.

Thermals and power profile

A dual-fan cooling system is designed to improve airflow and keep the chassis cool under sustained loads from the CPU and dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 memory. The processor runs at 2.90 GHz base frequency with Intel Turbo Boost up to 4.80 GHz and 12 MB cache. The included Dell AC adapter supplies power for the system and discrete GPU during typical workloads.

Ports and bundled accessories

Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port with x4 PCIe lanes, and an HDMI 2.0 output for external displays. A headphone and microphone combo jack and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth combo handle audio and wireless needs. The package includes the Dell AC adapter so the workstation is ready to deploy without extra purchases.

Questions about this item

How is the 512 GB M.2 drive installed and what step is often missed?

The drive slides into the M.2 slot at an angle, then screws down; people often forget to remove the protective sticker on the thermal pad before fitting the screw.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The two SODIMM slots support up to 32 GB total, so a future upgrade means swapping both modules for a matched 32 GB kit.

What limit appears first on the Quadro P2000 during sustained 3840 x 2160 rendering?

The 4 GB GDDR5 frame buffer fills before the GPU core saturates, forcing texture streaming over the PCIe bus and lowering frame rates.
