15.6 inch 4K convertible workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch 2-in-1 workstation with a 3840 x 2160 touchscreen. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8706G processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 4 TB NVMe SSD. AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 handle visual workloads. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Mobile professionals needing touch

This suit users who want a 4K touch display with 72% colour gamut coverage in a convertible silver chassis. Two Thunderbolt 3 ports and HDMI 2.0 support external monitors. Buyers who need user-upgradeable memory should look elsewhere because the 16 GB DDR4 is soldered with zero free slots.

4 TB NVMe SSD decides storage capacity

The single specification that determines fit is the 4 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. It sets the total space available for projects, applications and system files. No additional drive bays or slots are listed, so the installed capacity is fixed at 4 TB.

Questions about this item

Does the 5530 need any extra parts to run the i7-8706G and 16 GB DDR4 out of the box?

No extra parts are required. The 5530 ships with the i7-8706G, 16 GB DDR4 soldered on board, a 4 TB NVMe SSD, Windows 10 Pro and a 65-watt AC adapter already installed.

Can I keep using my older USB-A peripherals with the two Thunderbolt 3 and two USB-C 3.1 ports?

The 5530 provides only USB-C shaped ports — two Thunderbolt 3 and two USB-C 3.1 with PowerShare and DisplayPort. A USB-C to USB-A adapter or hub is needed for legacy USB-A devices.

How do I confirm the 3840 x 2160 touch panel and Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL are active after first boot?

Open Windows Display Settings and verify 3840 x 2160 resolution with touch input recognised, then open Device Manager and confirm AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL appears under Display adapters with 4 GB video memory.
