Mobile workstation for demanding workflows

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor and 16 GB of DDR4 memory. It pairs a 256 GB M.2 drive with a 2 TB SSD for fast, high-capacity storage. An NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 handles professional graphics workloads. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed.

Premium build with versatile connectivity

The chassis uses a platinum silver finish and an InfinityEdge design around a 3840 x 2160 IPS touch display covering 72% colour gamut. Ports include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 sockets, one Thunderbolt connection with four lanes of PCIe, and an HDMI 2.0 output for external monitors. A headphone and microphone combo jack rounds out the daily connection options.

Dual-fan cooling for sustained loads

A dual-fan thermal system is engineered to improve airflow and keep temperatures down during extended render or compute sessions. The dedicated Quadro P2000 draws power through the same cooling solution, helping the six-core CPU maintain higher clocks without excessive noise. The included AC adapter supplies the necessary power for this configuration.

Questions about this item

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually cap at for data transfer?

The Thunderbolt 3 port provides x4 PCIe lanes, so real-world throughput tops out around 40 Gbps, limited by the controller and cable quality rather than the port itself.

What screw pattern and clearance does the 15.6" chassis need for a VESA mount or dock?

The Precision 5530 has no VESA holes; it relies on a proprietary Dell dock connector on the bottom and standard rubber feet for desktop placement.

How is the 256 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD storage configured out of the box, and which slot do people forget to initialise?

Windows 11 Pro is installed on the 256 GB M.2 drive; the 2 TB SSD appears as a second unallocated volume that must be initialised and formatted in Disk Management before use.
