Precision mobile workstation for creators

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch UHD touchscreen laptop built for professionals who need colour-accurate visuals and certified graphics drivers. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The 3840 x 2160 IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut and supports multi-touch input for direct interaction with design apps.

Thunderbolt 3 and dual-storage flexibility

A single Thunderbolt 3 port delivers x4 PCIe bandwidth for external GPUs, high-speed storage or dual 4K displays, while HDMI 2.0 adds a second video output. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports handle peripherals and a headset jack covers audio. Inside, a 128 GB M.2 drive pairs with a 2 TB SSD so the operating system and active projects stay on fast storage without sacrificing capacity for large media libraries.

Upgrade from integrated-graphics ultraportables

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 replaces integrated graphics found in thin-and-light notebooks, enabling GPU-accelerated rendering, simulation and viewport performance in CAD, DCC and scientific workloads. The hexa-core i9-8950HK lifts multi-threaded compile and encode times well beyond dual-core or quad-core ultraportables. Buyers who need more than 32 GB of memory or a newer CPU architecture should consider a different platform.

Questions about this item

Does the i9-8950HK throttle when all six cores run at 4.80 GHz for long periods?

The processor reaches 4.80 GHz with Turbo Boost, but sustained loads will hit thermal limits before that speed can be held on every core.

How loud are the dual fans and how hot does the chassis get during an all-day render?

Dual fans move more air than a single-fan design, yet the thin chassis still warms noticeably and fan noise rises to an audible level under continuous Quadro P2000 load.

Which cables or docks do I need to drive two external 4K monitors from the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports?

Use a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for one 4K display and an HDMI 2.0 cable for the second; both ports are on the laptop so no proprietary adapter is required.
