Precision 5530 UHD mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch UHD touchscreen laptop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It ships with 32 GB DDR4 memory and dual storage comprising a 1 TB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 handles graphics workloads. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited for colour-critical creative work.

The 3840 x 2160 IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut, making it a fit for designers and engineers who need accurate on-screen proofing. Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays and fast peripherals. Buyers who want more storage bays or a second graphics card should look at larger chassis workstations. The slim InfinityEdge design limits internal expansion.

Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5 decides professional app

The dedicated Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 is the specification that determines whether certified drivers and ISV optimisations run reliably for your CAD, DCC or simulation software. If your workflow demands a higher GPU memory buffer or a newer architecture, this model will not meet that requirement. All other components scale around this graphics choice.

Questions about this item

What speed does the Thunderbolt 3 port support and what does that limit in practice?

The Thunderbolt 3 port provides x4 PCIe lanes, so external GPUs and NVMe enclosures run at full four-lane bandwidth rather than falling back to two lanes.

What are the exact dimensions and mounting pattern for the internal M.2 slot?

The laptop uses a standard 2280 M.2 slot with a single screw mount at the far end; no adapter or bracket is required for 2280 drives.

How is the second 1TB drive installed and which step is commonly missed?

The second drive occupies the 2.5-inch SATA bay; the step often missed is seating the drive fully into the SATA connector before securing the caddy screw.
