Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified graphics and a colour-accurate touch display. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a combined 128 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD storage. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 handles 3D and compute workloads.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Creators and engineers who want a factory-calibrated UHD touch panel, Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 in a silver chassis will find the spec matches their workflow. Buyers who need more than 16 GB RAM, a newer processor generation or a different GPU architecture should consider other configurations.

Deciding specification — 3840 x 2160 touch display

The 3840 x 2160 IPS touchscreen with 72 % colour gamut is the single feature that determines fit; it delivers the pixel density and pen input required for visual verification, while the Quadro P2000 drives it. If your workflow does not demand a calibrated UHD touch surface, a lower-resolution model may be more appropriate.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 128 GB M.2 drive and what step is often missed?

The M.2 slot accepts a 128 GB SATA or NVME module; the step often missed is securing the screw after seating the drive.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 16 GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; if more capacity is required a new system is needed.

What limit appears first on the i9-8950HK under sustained 4.80 GHz loads?

Thermal throttling from the dual-fan cooling system limits sustained 4.80 GHz operation on the six-core i9-8950HK.
