Precision 7730 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It ships with 128GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout combining a 256GB M.2 SSD with a 4TB M.2 SSD. An NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR5 memory handles professional visual workloads. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Suited to CAD and data-heavy tasks

Engineers and analysts who need large local datasets and certified professional graphics will benefit from the 128GB RAM and Quadro P3200 combination. The 17.3-inch FHD IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut for consistent visual review. Buyers who want a lighter chassis or longer battery life for frequent travel should look at something else. Buyers who need more than 6GB of video memory for GPU rendering should look at something else.

Quadro P3200 with 6GB GDDR5

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 card provides 6GB of GDDR5 video memory and is optimised for computer-aided design applications. Its performance tier is comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060, making it suitable for moderate 3D modelling and simulation workloads. This GPU specification is the primary factor in deciding whether the system meets your graphics requirements.

Questions about this item

What limits the i7-8750H from holding its 4.10 GHz Turbo Boost during long rendering jobs?

The 6-core processor reaches its thermal ceiling inside the 17.3" chassis, so the Precision 7730 dual-fan system throttles clocks to protect the CPU and the 6 GB Quadro P3200 GPU.

How loud and hot does the Precision 7730 get when the Quadro P3200 and i7-8750H run flat-out all day?

Dual fans spin up audibly and the silver chassis becomes warm to the touch as the cooling system manages the combined heat of the 6-core CPU and 6 GB GDDR5 graphics.

Which docks or monitors can I plug straight into the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports without extra adapters?

Any Thunderbolt 3 dock or USB-C monitor works on the Type-C port, and any HDMI 2.0 display connects directly to the HDMI output for 1920 x 1080 or higher resolutions.
