Mobile workstation for heavy workloads

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics with 6 GB GDDR5 memory. It targets engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics and 128 GB of DDR4 memory in a single chassis. The FHD IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut for accurate visual work.

Dual NVMe storage and Thunderbolt expansion

Two M.2 slots come populated with a 128 GB drive and a 4 TB NVMe SSD, giving fast boot and vast project space without external drives. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0 and a headset jack for docks, external GPUs or additional displays. The slim silver chassis keeps weight down while retaining professional build quality.

128 GB RAM and 6 GB GPU headroom

The 128 GB DDR4 configuration handles large assemblies, point-cloud data and multi-VM environments without paging. Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 drives CAD, simulation and GPU-accelerated rendering at 1920 x 1080 comfortably. Buyers who need more than 6 GB video memory or higher refresh-rate panels should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

When will the Intel Core i7-8750H hit its thermal ceiling during a long render?

The six-core processor runs at 2.20 GHz base and can reach 4.10 GHz with Turbo Boost; sustained loads will be limited by the laptop's cooling capacity before the CPU can hold its maximum frequency.

How loud and hot does the chassis get when the Quadro P3200 and CPU run flat-out for hours?

Dell describes the cooling as revolutionary thermals for a thinner, lighter mobile workstation; the 6 GB GDDR5 GPU and hexa-core CPU share a dual-fan heat-pipe system that moves heat to rear vents, so surface temperatures and fan noise rise noticeably under continuous load.

Which peripherals and cables must I already have to use the Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on day one?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port, an HDMI 2.0 cable for external 4K displays, and standard USB-A 3.0 cables for the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports; no adapters are included in the box.
