Precision 7730 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics in a portable chassis. It pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and dual NVMe storage totalling 2.5 TB. The NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 targets CAD, simulation and visualisation workflows. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Sustained workload behaviour

The six-core i7-8750H runs at 2.20 GHz base and can reach 4.10 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost, giving headroom for long render or compute sessions. Quadro drivers are optimised for stability in ISV applications rather than peak frame rates, so performance stays consistent over hours. The 72% colour-gamut IPS panel provides reliable colour accuracy for extended review work. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 allow external GPU or display expansion when thermal limits are reached.

Build, connectors and daily use

A silver aluminium chassis houses the 1920 x 1080 non-touch InfinityEdge display with PremierPanel guarantee. Ports include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, one Thunderbolt 3 Type-C, HDMI 2.0, and a headset jack for dock-free connectivity. The 512 GB plus 2 TB M.2 SSD layout leaves no 2.5-inch bay, so storage upgrades require M.2 slots only. Buyers needing more than 16 GB RAM or a second physical drive should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Precision 7730 get when the i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 run at full load for hours?

The six-core i7-8750H and dedicated Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 share a chassis Dell describes as using revolutionary thermals, so sustained workloads stay cooler and quieter than thinner alternatives.

Which peripherals and cables must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on this workstation?

You need Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C devices for the single Thunderbolt 3 port, an HDMI 2.0 cable for external displays, and standard USB-A 3.0 peripherals for the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports.

Will my older USB 3.0 drives and 1080p monitors work without adapters on the Precision 7730?

Yes — the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are backward compatible with USB 3.0 devices, and the HDMI 2.0 output drives 1920 x 1080 monitors at native resolution.
