Mobile Workstation for CAD

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch FHD mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It comes with 32GB DDR4 RAM and dual M.2 SSD storage comprising a 256GB drive and a 2TB drive. The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card provides 6GB GDDR5 video memory for professional applications.

Suited for certified ISV workflows

This machine targets engineers and designers running certified CAD, CAE or 3D modelling software that relies on Quadro drivers and ISV certification. The 72% colour gamut IPS panel supports colour-sensitive work. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher refresh rate display or a newer GPU architecture for modern real-time rendering pipelines should consider other options.

Quadro P3200 6GB GDDR5 decides fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6GB GDDR5 memory. It delivers certified driver stability for professional 3D applications and compute workloads that consumer GeForce cards do not guarantee. If your workflow requires more video memory or a newer GPU generation, this workstation will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop ship with both the 256 GB and 2 TB M.2 SSDs already installed, or do I need to add one myself?

Both drives are factory-installed; the unit arrives with 256 GB plus 2 TB of M.2 storage and 32 GB DDR4 memory, so no extra parts are required for the listed capacity.

The title lists both 7730 and 7740 — which chassis does this unit actually use?

The part number is 7730; the 7740 reference in the supplier title covers a related series, but this specific workstation is the Precision 7730 model.

What does the 6 GB GDDR5 on the Quadro P3200 mean for actual CAD viewport performance?

The 6 GB dedicated GDDR5 frame buffer lets the P3200 hold large assemblies and high-resolution textures on the 17.3" 1920 x 1080 IPS panel, delivering smooth viewport rotation in SOLIDWORKS, Revit and similar ISV-certified applications.
