Precision 7730 7740 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 7740 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for engineers and designers who need certified graphics and a large screen in a silver chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut and is non-touch.

Upgrade from dual-core or integrated graphics

Moving from a dual-core ultrabook or a system relying on integrated graphics to this hexa-core CPU and dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 makes sense when CAD, rendering or simulation workloads outgrow shared memory. The jump is worth it if you need ISV-certified drivers and the 128 GB plus 2 TB NVMe storage combination for active projects and archives.

Check Thunderbolt 3 dock and power needs

Verify that your existing Thunderbolt 3 dock or monitors use the single Thunderbolt 3 port and HDMI 2.0 output provided. Confirm the included AC adapter matches your regional plug standard and that 32 GB of soldered or slotted memory meets your virtual-machine or dataset requirements before ordering.

Questions about this item

Which M.2 slot lengths does the Precision 7730 chassis accept for the 128 GB and 2 TB drives?

The system ships with both a 128 GB and a 2 TB M.2 SSD installed, so the factory-configured slots already accommodate those lengths.

What is the correct order for seating the DDR4 SO-DIMMs and the M.2 SSDs during a memory or storage upgrade?

Remove the base cover, insert the DDR4 modules into the SO-DIMM slots until they click, then secure each M.2 drive with its retention screw before reassembling.

Which user-replaceable parts will need attention after several years of heavy workloads?

The 32 GB DDR4 memory, the 128 GB and 2 TB M.2 SSDs, the 6 GB GDDR5 Quadro P3200 GPU is soldered, and the internal cooling fan and thermal paste are the main service items.
