Mobile workstation for intensive workloads

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor running at 2.20 GHz up to 4.10 GHz. It targets engineers and designers who need desktop-class CPU performance and professional NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics with 6GB GDDR5 memory in a portable chassis.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity limits

The system provides one Thunderbolt 3 port and one HDMI 2.0 output for external displays. Thunderbolt 3 supports high-speed peripherals and daisy-chained monitors within its bandwidth ceiling. HDMI 2.0 caps external 4K output at 60 Hz, so higher refresh rates or resolutions beyond 4K are not possible through this port.

128GB DDR4 and 2TB NVMe headroom

With 128 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, the laptop handles large assemblies, simulation datasets and multi-application workflows without paging. Memory capacity exceeds typical mobile workstation limits, while the solid-state drive offers ample space for active projects. Buyers needing more than 128 GB RAM or multiple internal drives will hit the platform ceiling.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 128 GB DDR4 configuration or a lower capacity?

The 128 GB DDR4 option is the maximum memory this workstation supports, suited for large datasets and heavy multitasking; smaller DDR4 capacities are available if your workload fits in less RAM.

What does the 4.10 GHz turbo figure mean for daily work?

The i7-8750H runs at 2.20 GHz base and can reach 4.10 GHz on up to six cores when thermal headroom allows, giving short bursts of extra speed for compile jobs or rendering.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually deliver?

Thunderbolt 3 provides up to 40 Gbps for external GPUs, fast NVMe storage or dual 4K displays, and also carries USB 3.1 Gen 1 and DisplayPort signals over the same Type-C connector.
