Converts a USB 2.0 port to a DB9 serial connection with FTDI chipset and includes a 32-inch extension cable
The Dell USB2-VE487-TG converts a USB 2.0 port into a standard 9-pin male RS-232 serial connection using an FTDI chipset. It installs as a regular COM port and supports full modem control signals. The package includes a 32-inch USB extension cable for flexible placement.
The adapter operates at USB 2.0 speeds and delivers RS-232 data rates up to 230,400 bps. Driver support spans Windows 98 through Windows 11, Mac OS 8 and later, Linux 2.4.0 and later, OpenBSD 2.9 and later, and FreeBSD 4.7 and later. No external power supply is required.
The RS-232 end uses male thumbscrews, which are not interchangeable with female hex nut ports. Verify that your target device accepts this connector style before purchase. The cable length between the adapter body and the DB9 plug is 5 inches.

The adapter itself has a 5 inch cable and the package includes a separate 32 inch USB extension cable so you get both lengths in one box
It is the maximum serial throughput the FTDI chipset can deliver over the USB 2.0 link; actual speed depends on the connected DB9 device and driver settings
It uses USB 2.0 so the serial connection is limited to the 230400 bps ceiling of the FTDI chipset rather than any higher USB bandwidth
