Limits of the USB4 interface

Maximum throughput of 40Gbps depends on host, device and cable all supporting USB4 Gen 3x2; older USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 ports will fall back to their own lower ceilings. The 240W PD 3.1 Extended Power Range requires a charger and device that both negotiate 48V at 5A; otherwise the cable settles at 180W, 140W or 100W. Video at 8K60 or dual 4K60 needs a host GPU and display that support those modes over DisplayPort Alt Mode.
