Purpose-built mobile workstation

The HP EliteBook 745 G4 is a 14.0 inch ultrabook designed for professionals who need a compact Windows 10 Pro device with a 1920 x 1080 FHD display. It runs on an AMD PRO A10-8730B quad-core processor with integrated Radeon R5 graphics and 8 GB of DDR4 memory. A 128 GB SSD provides the primary storage.

Upgrade path from slower storage

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the 128 GB SSD cuts boot and application load times dramatically. The jump is worth it when daily tasks involve large documents or frequent application switching. Memory slots are fully populated at 8 GB, so expanding to the 16 GB maximum requires replacing both modules rather than adding one.

Connectivity ceiling of the integrated Wi-Fi 4 radio

Wireless throughput tops out at Wi-Fi 4 speeds, which can become a bottleneck on modern 1 Gbps wired networks or when transferring large files over the air. The single USB Type-C port carries data only and does not support video or charging. Two USB 3.0 ports and a 65-watt AC adapter round out the physical I/O.

Questions about this item

What SODIMM slots does the 745 G4 have for memory upgrades?

The laptop has two DDR4 SODIMM slots, both occupied by 4 GB modules. Maximum supported memory is 16 GB, so upgrading means replacing both sticks.

How is the 128 GB SSD installed in the 745 G4?

The drive fits into the internal M.2 slot; the common mistake is assuming a 2.5-inch bay exists, but this ultrabook only accepts M.2 storage.

When will the 65-watt AC adapter need replacement?

The 65-watt charger typically lasts several years; replace it if the cable frays, the barrel connector becomes loose, or the laptop stops charging.
