Desk and wall access point for small venues

The HPE Networking Instant On R2X15A is a dual-radio wireless access point built for desktop or wall mounting in boutique hotels, medical offices and collaboration spaces. It supports simultaneous 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz operation with integrated directional antennas. Power is supplied through PoE on the uplink port and a separate 48 V DC option, with no adapter included in the box.

Passive cooling and PoE power budget

The unit has no fans, so it runs silently in noise-sensitive areas such as patient rooms or meeting spaces. The uplink port accepts 802.3af or 802.3at PoE, drawing class 3 or class 4 power respectively. When powered by 802.3af, the PoE-out function on downlink port E3 is automatically disabled. A 48 V DC source removes that restriction.

Medical-grade rating and cloud management

UL 2043 plenum rating and EN 60601-1-1 and EN 60601-1-2 compliance allow installation in healthcare environments. The Instant On web GUI and template system let administrators deploy multiple access points in minutes, with configuration changes pushed automatically across a cluster and a secondary unit taking over if the primary fails.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the AP11D and which PoE class must the uplink port negotiate?

Mount it on a desk or wall, connect the E0 uplink to a switch that provides 802.3af class 3 or 802.3at class 4 PoE; if only 802.3af is available the E3 downlink PoE-out stays disabled.

What ongoing upkeep does the R2X15A require after installation?

No user-serviceable parts exist; firmware updates are pushed automatically through the Instant On cloud portal, and the integrated directional antennas need no cleaning or adjustment.

At what sustained throughput does the 5 GHz radio hit its ceiling first?

The 5 GHz 2x2 MIMO radio tops out at 867 Mbps, so heavy 4K streaming or large file transfers will saturate that band before the 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps limit is reached.
