Passive Bookshelf Pair

The Kanto YUP6W is a pair of passive bookshelf speakers built with 5.25-inch Kevlar woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters. They deliver a neutral, balanced tone across a 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response at 89 dB sensitivity. The 6-ohm nominal impedance and 100W power handling suit a range of external amplifiers.

Amplifier Required Placement

These speakers need an external amplifier or receiver to operate, connecting via standard speaker terminals. A bottom-mounted 1/4"-20 threaded hole secures them to compatible Kanto stands available in 26 or 32-inch heights. They integrate into desktop setups with a DAC and amp, stereo listening stations, or home theatre systems as surround or height channels.

Upgrade From Powered Speakers

The jump is worth it when you want to choose your own amplification and keep the speakers through future electronics upgrades. They are not for buyers who want a single-box solution with built-in power, wireless streaming, or a remote control. The passive design frees you from replacing the entire unit if the amplifier section fails or becomes outdated.

Questions about this item

How much power can the 5.25-inch Kevlar woofers handle continuously?

The speakers are rated for 100 watts power handling, which is the thermal limit the voice coils can sustain during extended listening sessions.

Do the silk dome tweeters or the Kevlar woofers generate noticeable heat when the pair runs at high volume all day?

Passive speakers have no built-in amplification, so they produce no electrical heat themselves; any warmth comes from the external amplifier driving them.

What amplifier specifications are required to drive the 6-ohm nominal impedance properly?

Choose an amplifier or receiver rated for 6-ohm loads with at least 50 watts per channel to match the 89 dB sensitivity and 100-watt power handling.
