Compact 4TB storage for mobile creators

The LaCie Rugged Mini LAC9000633 delivers four terabytes in a 2.5 inch orange enclosure that fits in a jacket pocket. It connects through a USB 3.0 port and works with Windows 7 or later and Mac OS X 10.5 or later. The drive targets photographers, videographers and field professionals who need high capacity on location.

Plug-and-play setup with a durable cable

Installation is as simple as connecting the supplied USB 3.0 cable, which is also USB 2.0 compatible, to any free port. No external power adapter is required because the bus provides enough current for the 2.5 inch mechanism. The rubber sleeve absorbs shocks from drops and can withstand the weight of a one-ton vehicle, so the most common failure point — physical damage during transport — is largely eliminated.

USB 3.0 bandwidth caps real-world throughput

The USB 3.0 interface tops out at 5 Gbps, so sustained transfers cannot exceed roughly 130 MB/s regardless of the drive’s internal speed. Large video files such as an 800 MB clip will move in seconds, but the bus remains the bottleneck for heavier workloads. Users needing faster ingest speeds must look to interfaces beyond USB 3.0.
