ThinkCentre M720s small form factor

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small form factor desktop built for business environments. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and uses an Intel Core i5 8500 six-core processor running at 3.0 GHz with 9 MB L3 cache. The system includes 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD for the operating system and applications.

Suited for office work.

This desktop suits offices that need a compact, wired workstation for productivity software and dual-monitor setups via the two DisplayPort outputs. It is not for buyers who require built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, as no wireless card is included. It is also not for users who need a dedicated graphics card or additional internal drive bays beyond the single NVMe slot.

Single NVMe slot defines storage upgrade path

The 256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD occupies the sole M.2 slot, so any storage increase means replacing this drive rather than adding a second one. The platform provides six USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports and one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port for external peripherals. Gigabit Ethernet handles wired networking.

Questions about this item

Will the 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD need replacing as the main drive?

The 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD is the primary storage; you can add a second drive internally if the chassis has a free bay and M.2 slot.

What limit appears first when the 65W six-core i5-8500 runs sustained workloads?

The 65W TDP and air-cooling design mean thermal throttling will arrive before the CPU hits its maximum turbo frequency during long sessions.

How loud and hot does the small-form-factor chassis get when left on all day?

Air cooling in the slim case keeps the 65W processor within spec, but fan noise rises noticeably under continuous load and surface temperatures become warm.
