Ready-to-deploy business ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s arrives with Windows 10 Pro installed and 16 GB of DDR4 memory paired with a 1 TB SSD. An 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor runs at 1.7 GHz and can reach 3.6 GHz when headroom allows. The 14.0 inch FHD IPS touchscreen delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution in a thin-border chassis.

Sustained workload behaviour

Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles desktop composition and video playback without a discrete GPU. The quad-core design keeps four threads active during long compiles or spreadsheet recalculations while the 6 MB L2 cache reduces memory latency. Passive thermal limits mean clocks settle below the peak turbo after several minutes of continuous load.

Deciding specification

The single fixed 1 TB SSD capacity determines whether the machine holds the required project libraries and offline data sets. Buyers who need more storage must look elsewhere because the drive is not user-expandable in this configuration. The 16 GB DDR4 ceiling also caps virtual-machine counts for developers running multiple guests.

Questions about this item

How loud does the fan get on the i5-8350U when the 14" touchscreen runs at full brightness all day?

The quad-core i5-8350U runs cool enough for typical office tasks; the fan stays quiet during light loads and spins up only under sustained heavy work.

Which cables or adapters must I already own to drive an external monitor from the USB-C ports on this T480s?

The two USB-C ports support DisplayPort alt-mode and Power Delivery, so a USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI cable is all you need for video out.

Will my existing SATA M.2 drive work as extra storage alongside the 1 TB SSD already installed?

The 1 TB SSD occupies the NVMe M.2 slot; there is no second M.2 or 2.5" bay, so an additional SATA drive cannot be fitted internally.
