Built for field work

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 is a 14.0-inch semi-rugged laptop running Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-5300U at 2.3 GHz with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD. It targets mobile professionals who need integrated 4G LTE Multi FirstNet, a dedicated GPS receiver, a smartcard reader and a fingerprint sensor in a chassis certified to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65. The non-touch HD 1366 x 768 display and a digitizer pen support data capture in vehicles or on site.

Thermals noise and power

The low-power Core i5-5300U processor and Intel HD Graphics 5500 generate modest heat, allowing the cooling system to run quietly during typical office or field tasks. Power draw stays low enough for extended battery operation on a single charge, and the included AC adapter replenishes the battery when mains power is available. No fan noise or thermal throttling is reported under normal workloads.

Bundled accessories and software

A digitizer pen enables precise input on the non-touch screen for signatures, annotations or mapping work. The power adapter and cord are included so the unit is ready to deploy immediately. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed with drivers for the LTE module, GPS, smartcard reader and fingerprint sensor, removing the need for manual configuration. Paper manuals are not supplied; electronic documentation is available online.

Questions about this item

How do I install the digitizer pen on the CF-54, and what step is often missed?

The pen slots into the built-in garage on the chassis; the step people miss is pairing it in Windows 10 Pro Pen settings before first use.

What maintenance or replacement will the CF-54 need later?

The removable battery will eventually need replacement; the 256 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM (max 16 GB) are user-accessible behind the service door.

What limit appears first on the CF-54 during sustained heavy workloads?

The Intel HD Graphics 5500 thermal ceiling throttles the Core i5-5300U before the MIL-STD-810G chassis reaches its temperature rating.
