Field-ready 14-inch laptop

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 is a new rugged laptop built to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 standards. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-5300U processor with 8 GB of memory and a 500 GB SSD. Integrated 4G LTE, GPS, a smartcard reader and a fingerprint reader support mobile workflows. A digitizer pen and DVD-ROM drive are included.

Suits mobile professionals needing durability

Workers in logistics, utilities or public safety who require a sealed chassis, dedicated GPS and hardware authentication will find the feature set aligned with field demands. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a higher-resolution display or lighter ultraportable design should look at other models. The single-core processor limits heavy multitasking or modern creative workloads.

500 GB SSD and 8 GB memory

The 500 GB solid-state drive provides the primary storage capacity for the operating system and local data. Memory is expandable to 16 GB for users who need more headroom. The 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display and Intel HD Graphics 5500 define the visual output. Connectivity includes Gigabit LAN, 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth 4.1.

Questions about this item

What LAN speed does the CF-54 support in practice?

The integrated LAN is rated at 10/100/1000Mbps, so the practical ceiling is 1000Mbps when connected to a Gigabit switch or router.

What physical space is needed for the 14-inch Toughbook CF-54?

The chassis measures 14 inches diagonally and is 0.5 inches thinner than comparable rugged laptops, fitting standard 14-inch sleeves and briefcases.

How is the digitizer pen installed on the CF-54, and what step is often missed?

The pen is a passive digitizer stylus; it works immediately on the 1366 x 768 non-touch display, but users often forget to calibrate it in Windows 10 Pro Tablet PC Settings for accurate input.
