M.2 SATA Adapter with Metal Case

The SMUGDESK adapter converts a B+M Key M.2 SATA SSD into a standard 2.5 inch SATA 3.0 6Gbps drive. A durable metal enclosure provides heat dissipation and dust protection for long-term operation. Plug-and-play compatibility covers Windows, Linux and JBOD multidisk storage systems.

Suits 2.5 inch bays, not M.2 slots

Builders upgrading laptops, desktops, NAS units or storage enclosures with 2.5 inch drive bays can install supported M.2 SATA SSDs using this adapter. Buyers whose systems only offer an M.2 socket should look elsewhere because the adapter requires a 2.5 inch SATA bay.

Supports 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths

The adapter accepts all mainstream M.2 SATA form factors from 2230 through 2280. Selecting an SSD that matches one of these four lengths is the single specification that decides whether the drive will fit and function correctly.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the M.2 SATA SSD is detected at full 6Gbps speed after installing the adapter?

Check the BIOS or OS disk utility for a SATA 3.0 link rate and run a sequential read test; sustained throughput near the SATA 3.0 ceiling shows the B+M Key SSD is operating correctly through the metal-cased riser.

What comes with the adapter and what must I supply myself?

The package includes the riser card inside a metal case sized for 2.5inch bays; you provide any 2230, 2242, 2260 or 2280 M.2 SATA SSD and a standard SATA data plus power cable.

Which M.2 length should I choose for my 2.5inch bay?

All listed lengths — 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 — fit the same metal case and 2.5inch form factor, so pick the length that matches the SSD you already own or plan to buy.
