SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK Oculink SFF8612 to PCIe 4.0 M.2 MKey adapter with 8cm and 12cm brackets

SKU CH-VQSR-NJ5GB

Converts an M.2 MKey slot to an Oculink SFF8612 port for external eGPU or NVMe SSD use at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds up to 64Gbps, with low-profile and full-height brackets included

  • Converts M.2 MKey slot to Oculink SFF8612 for eGPU or NVMe expansion
  • Delivers full PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth up to 64Gbps, backward compatible with 3.0
  • Includes 8cm low-profile and 12cm standard brackets for flexible chassis mounting
  • Shielded cable reduces signal loss and interference for stable long-term operation
  • Plug-and-play with no drivers needed on Windows 10, 11 and Linux

Purpose and fit

This SMUGDESK adapter converts an internal M.2 MKey slot into an external Oculink SFF8612 port so you can attach an eGPU or NVMe SSD outside the chassis. It targets mini-PC owners and DIY builders who need PCIe expansion without a full-size slot.

Bandwidth and compatibility

The link runs at full PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth up to 64Gbps and remains backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 x4 devices. If your host M.2 slot is limited to PCIe 3.0 or x2 lanes, you will not reach the stated throughput.

Thermals noise and power

The shielded extension cable is built to reduce signal loss and electromagnetic interference during long heavy-load sessions. No active cooling or extra power connector is included, so sustained performance depends on the host slot and the external device's own thermal design.

Questions about this item

What does the 64Gbps bandwidth mean once the adapter is installed in a real machine?

The 64Gbps figure is the theoretical PCIe 4.0 x4 ceiling; actual throughput will be lower due to protocol overhead and the capabilities of the connected eGPU or NVMe SSD.

Which interface standard does the SFF8612 port use, and what does it cap in practice?

The SFF8612 port carries a PCIe 4.0 x4 link, so the practical ceiling is the 64Gbps lane bandwidth shared by the external graphics card or NVMe SSD.

What does the adapter physically need to fit or mount in my case?

It plugs into an M.2 MKey slot on the motherboard and includes both an 8cm low-profile bracket and a 12cm standard bracket for rear-panel mounting.
