Indoor tri-band Wi-Fi 6/6E access point

The Sophos AP6 420E is an indoor wireless access point that operates across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. It uses a 2x2:2 MIMO configuration on each radio and delivers a maximum theoretical data rate of 5375 Mbps. The unit includes a three-year support subscription that enables Sophos Central cloud management, firmware updates and 24/7 support.

PoE+ power and 2.5G Ethernet limits

The access point draws up to 24.25 W and requires an 802.3at PoE+ injector or switch, which must be sourced separately. Its single wired uplink is a 2.5G Ethernet port, so total throughput cannot exceed that link speed. A micro-USB console port is provided for local configuration only.

Plenum-rated ceiling mount for dense spaces

The housing meets UL 2043 plenum rating and EN 60601-1-2 for medical environments, allowing installation in air-handling ceilings. It supports desktop, wall or ceiling mounting and targets general-purpose, medium-density deployments such as retail, small education sites and small to medium offices. Buyers who need outdoor-rated hardware or higher-density radio chains should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz or 6 GHz radio for my deployment?

The AP6 420E runs all three radios simultaneously — 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz — so you do not choose one; each client connects to the band that suits it best.

What does the 5375 Mbps headline rate mean once the AP is mounted?

5375 Mbps is the combined theoretical ceiling across the three radios (575 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2100 Mbps on 5 GHz, 2400 Mbps on 6 GHz); real-world throughput per client will be lower due to overhead, distance and contention.

What does the 2.5G PoE+ port cap in practice?

The single 2.5G Ethernet port with 802.3at PoE+ limits wired backhaul to 2.5 Gbps and supplies up to 24.25 W to the access point, so a 2.5G-capable switch or injector is required for full speed.
