Indoor Wi-Fi 6E access point

The Sophos AP6 840E is a tri-radio indoor wireless access point supporting Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. It provides 4x4:4 MIMO capability with internal omnidirectional antennas on each radio. Management is available through Sophos Central cloud platform or a local web interface. The unit includes a three-year support subscription enabling firmware updates and advanced replacement.

Suited for dense 6 GHz environments.

This access point suits medium to large offices, higher education campuses and healthcare settings that need the 6 GHz band for compatible clients and plenum-rated installation. The 2.5G Ethernet ports with PoE++ require compatible switching or injector infrastructure. Organisations without 6 GHz client devices or without PoE++ power infrastructure should evaluate lower-tier models.

6 GHz band with 4800 Mbps maximum rate

The 6 GHz radio delivers a maximum theoretical data rate of 4800 Mbps using a 4x4 configuration, providing the primary capacity uplift over dual-band alternatives. This band operates independently alongside the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios, each with dedicated 4x4 antenna arrays. The combined tri-radio design supports up to 48 simultaneous SSIDs across all bands.

Questions about this item

What ceiling or wall space does the 225 x 43 x 225 mm indoor chassis require?

The unit measures 225 mm square by 43 mm deep, so allow that footprint plus cable bend radius when planning a ceiling tile or wall mount.

Which PoE standard must the switch or injector meet for the 2.5G port with PoE++?

Connect the first 2.5G port to an 802.3bt PoE++ source delivering at least 60 W; the second 2.5G port has no PoE and is for data only.

How long does the bundled support subscription cover Sophos Central management and firmware updates?

The included subscription lasts three years and provides cloud management, firmware updates, Advanced RMA and 24/7 support for this access point.
