Tri-band Wi-Fi 6/6E indoor access point with 2.5 GbE PoE+ and five-year cloud-management support
Model AP6 420E
Model 5-Year Support
The Sophos AP6 420E delivers three concurrent radios on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, each with 2x2 MIMO, for general-purpose indoor deployments such as retail stores, small-to-medium offices and K-12 classrooms. It connects via a single 2.5 GbE port powered by 802.3at PoE+ and includes a five-year support subscription that unlocks Sophos Central cloud management, firmware updates and advanced replacement service.
Under continuous traffic the tri-radio design distributes clients across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz spectrum, while 2x2 MU-MIMO serves multiple devices simultaneously on each band. The 24.25 W PoE+ budget powers all three radios and the 2.5 GbE uplink without external adapters, and the plenum-rated chassis meets UL 2043 for safe installation in air-handling spaces.
The 2.5 GbE link caps aggregate throughput below the combined theoretical radio ceiling of 5375 Mbps, so wired backhaul becomes the bottleneck when all three radios run at peak rates. DFS channels on 5 GHz require radar detection delays, and 6 GHz operation depends on client devices that support Wi-Fi 6E. Management features beyond the local web interface require an active support subscription per access point.

Other versions of this model
The unit has a maximum power consumption of 24.25 W and is powered via 802.3at PoE+, so a compatible PoE+ switch or injector must supply at least that amount.
It has a single 2.5G Multigigabit Ethernet port with 802.3at PoE+; use Cat5e or better cabling and a switch port that supports 2.5G and PoE+ to deliver both data and power.
Yes, it uses three separate radios — one per band — each with 2x2 MIMO and up to 8 SSIDs, so all three frequency bands operate simultaneously.
