Indoor Wi-Fi 6E tri-radio access point

The Sophos AP6 840E is a cloud-managed indoor access point that operates across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands simultaneously. It targets high-density environments such as medium to large offices and higher education campuses where 6 GHz client devices are present. Management is available through Sophos Central or a local web interface for single-unit configuration. A 5-year support subscription covering firmware updates, Advanced RMA and 24/7 multi-channel support is included with the unit.

PoE++ power and 2.5G wired backhaul limits

The access point draws up to 45 W and requires an 802.3bt PoE++ source capable of delivering 60 W per port; a standard PoE+ injector will not supply enough power. Two 2.5G multigigabit Ethernet ports provide wired uplinks, though only the first port supports PoE++ input. The second 2.5G port operates without Power over Ethernet, so a separate injector or a compatible switch such as the CS210-8FP must be sourced separately to meet the power budget.

4×4:4 MIMO and 8350 Mbps aggregate throughput

The tri-radio design uses 4×4:4 MIMO on each band, delivering a combined theoretical maximum of 8350 Mbps split as 1150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2800 Mbps on 5 GHz and 4800 Mbps on 6 GHz. Forty-eight SSIDs are supported, with sixteen available per radio for network segmentation. Plenum-rated construction meets UL2043 and medical equipment directive EN 60601-1-2, allowing installation in air-handling spaces where fire and safety codes apply.
