Connect HDMI sources to VGA displays

This active adapter converts a digital HDMI signal from a laptop, ultrabook or desktop computer to an analog VGA input on a monitor or projector. It supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz and requires no external power supply. The compact dongle measures 9.60 inches in length and weighs 1.20 oz.

Resolution and device limits

The converter tops out at 1080p and cannot pass higher resolutions or refresh rates. Audio is not carried over the VGA connection so a separate audio path is needed. The supplier notes this adapter will not work with Samsung Chromebooks.

Check your ports before ordering

Verify the source device has a standard HDMI output and the display accepts a VGA input. Ensure the content you plan to show does not exceed 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz. Confirm you do not need audio through the same cable and that the host is not a Samsung Chromebook.

Questions about this item

Should I pick this adapter or a longer cable for my laptop-to-projector setup?

This unit is a compact 9.60" dongle with straight HDMI male and VGA female connectors. If you need more reach, add a separate VGA extension cable rather than choosing a longer integrated adapter.

Will the 1920x1080 60Hz rating give me a sharp 1080p image on my office monitor?

Yes. The adapter supports a maximum analog resolution of 1920x1080 at 60Hz, so a standard 1080p monitor or projector will display at its native resolution with no scaling artefacts.

Does the HDMI 19-pin male connector carry audio to the VGA side?

No. The specification lists audio as not supported, so only video is converted from digital HDMI to analog VGA; you will need a separate audio path for sound.
