6 ft TRRS headset extension cable

This 6 ft 3.5 mm 4-position TRRS male-to-female cable extends the reach of a headset connected to a smartphone or computer. Molded strain relief at both connectors reduces stress at the termination points. Nickel-plated contacts and 90 % spiral-wrapped shielding protect the signal from RFI and EMI. The black PVC jacket is built for daily VOIP and chat use.

Practical limits of the 3.5 mm TRRS interface

The 3.5 mm 4-pole plug carries stereo audio plus a microphone channel in a single connector. It works with combined headset jacks on laptops, phones and tablets but will not provide microphone audio through separate mic and headphone sockets. Cable length of 6 ft adds resistance and capacitance that can slightly reduce signal level on very long runs. No active electronics are present, so the cable cannot compensate for impedance mismatches.

4-position TRRS pinout decides compatibility

The single specification that determines whether this cable works is the 4-position TRRS wiring standard used by your device. Headsets and jacks wired to CTIA or OMTP pinouts will pass stereo and microphone signals correctly. Devices with 3-pole stereo-only jacks or proprietary headset interfaces will not carry the microphone channel through this extension.

Questions about this item

Is the 6 ft length right for reaching from my desk to my headset?

The cable is 6 ft long and adds that much reach between a 3.5 mm 4-position headset jack and your computer or phone.

Does the 4-position TRRS plug carry both stereo audio and the microphone on one connector?

Yes, the 4-pole 3.5 mm male and female connectors pass left and right audio plus the microphone and ground on a single plug.

Will the 90 % spiral-wrapped shielding stop buzz from nearby power bricks?

The 90 % spiral wrap around the conductors shields against RFI and EMI, reducing noise from adjacent chargers or power supplies.
