4K HDBaseT Extender Kit

The v AV Access 4KEX70-L transmits HDMI 1.4 signals up to 40 metres at 4K 60 Hz 4:2:0 8-bit HDR, or 70 metres at 1080p 60 Hz, over a single Cat 6a or Cat 7 cable. It includes a transmitter and a receiver sold only as a pair, with HDCP 2.2 compliance and automatic EDID management. The kit suits installers and home-theatre owners who need uncompressed video without running long HDMI leads.

Passive Cooling and Single Power Supply

Both units run without fans, so they add no audible noise to a rack or living-room cabinet. A single threaded power adapter connected to either the transmitter or the receiver powers both ends through bi-directional PoE, eliminating the need for a second mains outlet at the display side. Power draw is low enough that no external cooling or ventilation allowance is required beyond normal shelf space.

Rack or Shelf Integration

Each module is roughly the size of a smartphone, so it fits on a shelf, behind a display or in a shallow rack tray without blocking adjacent ports. The extender passes CEC, two-way IR and RS-232, letting the source and display control each other through the same Cat cable. Audio formats including LPCM 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X travel alongside the video. Buyers who need fibre-distance runs or 4K 4:4:4 chroma will need a different solution.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the transmitter and receiver over Cat 6a cable and where does the single power adapter plug in?

Run one Cat 6a or Cat 7 cable between the HDBaseT ports on the transmitter and receiver, then connect the threaded power adapter to either unit; bi-directional PoE powers both.

Will the IR and RS232 pass-through channels ever need re-pairing or firmware updates?

No, IR and RS232 pass-through are hardware-level and require no pairing or firmware; only the Cat cable or power adapter may need replacement over time.

At what distance does 4K 60 Hz 4:2:0 HDR start to degrade on Cat 6a?

The 4K 60 Hz 4:2:0 8-bit HDR signal is specified to 40 m or 131 ft; beyond that the link drops to 1080p 60 Hz up to 70 m or 230 ft.
