Internal OCuLink SFF-8611 to SFF-8643 cable
This 50 cm active cable connects a controller with an SFF-8611 4i port to a backplane or device using an SFF-8643 connector. It is built for internal PCIe data links in servers and workstations. The active design supports the 8 Gbps transfer rate over the half-metre run. Both ends feature male plugs with active latches for a secure lock.
Practical limits of the OCuLink interface
The link runs at up to 8 Gbps and requires an OCuLink interface on both sides. The cable will not function with an SFF-8643 slimline SAS RAID card because the protocol differs. Length is fixed at 50 cm, so the controller and backplane must be close enough for that reach. No external or eSATA use is supported.
Installation notes and common issues
Push each connector straight in until the active latch clicks; the latch prevents accidental unplugging during vibration. A frequent error is trying to mate this cable with a slimline SAS port, which looks similar but will not work. Verify that the host side is an OCuLink SFF-8611 4i port before ordering. The short, stiff active cable needs a clear routing path without sharp bends.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the 50cm length or a longer cable for my build?
The 50cm length suits tight chassis routing between a backplane and controller; longer cables add slack but may reduce signal integrity at 8 Gbps.
What does the 8 Gbps rate deliver in a live system?
It provides the full PCIe lane bandwidth the SFF-8611 host port can carry, limited only by the connected SSD or backplane capability.
How does the SFF-8611 to SFF-8643 interface affect compatibility?
The cable mates an OCuLink SFF-8611 controller port to an SFF-8643 backplane or drive; it will not function with slimline SAS RAID cards using SFF-8643.
