Waterproof RFID Reader for Access Control

The ZKTECO KR101M is a Wiegand-output card reader built for outdoor access-control systems. It reads 125 kHz proximity cards and 13.56 MHz Mifare credentials at ranges up to 10 cm and 5 cm respectively. An IP65-rated epoxy-sealed housing allows mounting on metal door frames or mullions in exposed locations. The unit suits installers who need a single reader to cover both low-frequency and high-frequency card populations.

Wiegand Interface and Environmental Limits

The reader communicates over standard 26-bit or 34-bit Wiegand with a maximum cable run of 100 m. Operating voltage spans DC 5 V to 16 V, with 12 V as the nominal supply. Temperature tolerance extends from -10 °C to 70 °C and humidity from 10 % to 90 % RH. These boundaries define where the device can be deployed without additional weather shielding or signal conditioning.

Replaces Indoor-Only or Single-Frequency Readers

The KR101M upgrades installations that previously used separate 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz readers or indoor-rated units lacking IP65 protection. The jump is worthwhile when a site requires dual-frequency credential support at a single mounting point exposed to rain or dust. It does not suit projects needing encrypted OSDP communication, long-range UHF reading, or multi-door controller integration beyond Wiegand.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 125KHz or 13.56MHz version for my Mifare cards?

The 13.56MHz reader handles Mifare IC cards at up to 5cm range; the 125KHz version reads proximity cards up to 10cm.

What does the 5cm read range mean when the unit is mounted on a metal door frame?

Expect reliable Mifare reads at 3–5cm in real use; the epoxy-sealed IP65 housing maintains that distance outdoors from -10°C to 70°C.

How far can I run the Wiegand 26/34 cable from the reader to the controller?

The Wiegand interface supports up to 100m communication distance on standard DC12V power.
