Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router

The ASUS RT-BE82U is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router built for homes that need high throughput on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It delivers a combined wireless data rate of up to 6500 Mbps and uses 4096-QAM to increase per-band transmission speed by 1.2 times. Five 2.5GbE ports provide wired connectivity for demanding devices.

Practical limits of the 2.5GbE interface

Each of the five Ethernet ports tops out at 2.5 Gbps, so any single wired link cannot exceed that rate regardless of the router’s aggregate wireless capacity. The single 2.5G WAN port likewise caps incoming internet bandwidth at 2.5 Gbps, which may restrict multi-gigabit fibre plans. Wireless clients share the 5.7 Gbps maximum across both bands, so real-world throughput per device will be lower.

Capacity and headroom

The router comfortably handles simultaneous 4K streaming, gaming and video calls across dozens of devices thanks to Multi-link Operation that bonds the two bands for stability. AiMesh extendable support lets you add compatible nodes for whole-home coverage without sacrificing advanced features. Households requiring a dedicated 6 GHz band or aggregate wired throughput beyond 2.5 Gbps per link will need a different class of product.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the BE6500 model or is there a higher-tier version?

The RT-BE82U is the BE6500 model; no higher-tier version is listed for this product line.

What does the 6500 Mbps headline speed mean once the router is in my home?

The 6500 Mbps figure is the combined theoretical maximum across both bands; real-world throughput reaches up to 5.7 Gbps under optimal conditions.

How does the 2.5GbE wired interface cap my actual network speeds?

Each of the five 2.5GbE ports limits wired device throughput to 2.5 Gbps, so the LAN and WAN links cannot exceed that rate per connection.
