Universal drive adapter

The CoolGear SATA and IDE to USB adapter kit connects 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch and 5.25 inch hard drives or optical drives to a computer over USB. It includes an AC power supply for desktop drives and a true back-up and restore function for data retrieval. The aluminium shell houses the updated chip. It is built for technicians and anyone migrating data from older systems.

Who this suits and who it does not

The kit suits users who need to access IDE or SATA drives from failed or obsolete computers. It also suits service technicians who require a universal bench tool for drive diagnostics. Buyers who need to connect drives without IDE or SATA interfaces should look at a different adapter. The included back-up software does not run on Mac OS.

Deciding specification

The adapter supports IDE drives from 20 GB up to 2000 GB and SATA or SATA II drives from 80 GB up to 2000 GB. It also supports IDE or SATA ATAPI optical drives. This capacity range decides whether your specific drive can be connected.
