Universal Drive Bridge

The METRA AX-S100A connects 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA or IDE hard drives and optical drives to a host computer through a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port. It accepts one IDE and one SATA device at the same time, but cannot run two IDE drives together. The adapter is powered by an included 12 V 2 A supply and features an on-off switch for drive protection.

USB 3.2 Gen1 Ceiling

The interface tops out at 5 Gbps and falls back to USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps or USB 1.1 at 12 Mbps when connected to older ports. Actual throughput depends on the attached drive’s own speed, so mechanical disks will saturate well below the link maximum. The Type-C plug is reversible, but the cable is only 1.8 in long, so the adapter sits close to the host.

Capacity and Headroom

The bridge handles 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA or IDE hard disks and optical drives of any capacity the drive itself supports. One-Touch Backup works on Windows only; Linux and Mac OS cannot trigger the function. Win 10 and Mac OS also do not support DVD drives through this adapter, so optical media workflows on those systems are not possible.
