Built for field work

The Dell Latitude 5424 Rugged is a 14.0-inch laptop engineered to withstand harsh environments and outdoor use. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 32 GB DDR4 memory. Storage combines a 128 GB M.2 SSD and a 1 TB M.2 SSD for fast boot and ample capacity. The non-touch FHD display reaches 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Display and graphics limits

Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 14.0-inch panel at 1920 x 1080, which suits office apps and map viewing but not 3D rendering or modern gaming. The non-touch screen lacks pen or finger input, so workflows needing direct manipulation need an external device. Wireless options include Wi-Fi, optional LTE 4G and dedicated GPS, though WWAN hardware may not be installed.

Check your peripherals and power

Connectivity provides USB 3.0 ports, one USB Type-C port, HDMI, DisplayPort, a serial port and RJ-45 Ethernet. Verify that your docks, monitors and legacy serial gear match these interfaces. The system ships with a Dell OEM charger and supports internal 6- or 9-cell batteries with optional hot-swap bridge battery; confirm your mobile power strategy matches the installed battery configuration.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 128 GB or 1 TB drive for my primary workload?

The laptop ships with both a 128 GB M.2 SSD and a 1 TB M.2 SSD installed. Use the faster 128 GB drive for the operating system and applications, and the 1 TB drive for large project files and media.

What does the 3.60 GHz boost clock on the i5-8350U mean for everyday performance?

The quad-core processor can reach 3.60 GHz on short bursts, giving snappy response in office apps and web browsing. Sustained speeds will be lower under continuous load because of the rugged thermal design.

What display output does the USB Type C port support?

The USB Type C port carries video and can drive an external monitor alongside the HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Maximum resolution and refresh rate depend on the connected display and cable quality.
