Rugged laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5424 is a 14.0 inch rugged laptop built for mobile professionals who need durability in the field. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with UHD 620 integrated graphics. The anti-glare 1920 x 1080 display is a non-touch panel suited for outdoor visibility. With 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD, it handles business workloads and stores large project files locally.

Ports and connectivity for field work

The laptop includes two USB 3.0 Type-A ports plus a third Type-A port with a closeable door for a wireless receiver. A USB 3.0 Type-C port supports power and display output, while a native RS-232 serial port connects legacy industrial equipment. Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet, HDMI and a universal audio jack complete the physical interfaces. Wireless connectivity uses a Qualcomm QCA61x4A 802.11ac dual-band adapter with Bluetooth 4.1 for peripherals.

Memory expansion and power requirements

The system ships with 8 GB installed across two slots and supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory for heavier multitasking. Verify that your existing DDR4 modules match the required specification before upgrading. The unit includes a power adapter; confirm the connector and voltage suit your regional outlets or site power strips. The 5.5000 kg weight and 1.750 cm height affect backpack choice and vehicle mounting options.

Questions about this item

Can the 8 GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later if I need more capacity?

Yes, the laptop has two DDR4 slots and supports up to 32 GB total, so you can add or replace modules to increase memory.

Which component will hit its thermal ceiling first during long workloads on the i5-8350U?

The integrated UHD 620 graphics share system memory and have no dedicated cooling, so sustained GPU-heavy tasks will thermal-throttle before the CPU does.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel when the machine runs all day?

The rugged chassis uses a single internal fan; under continuous load it spins up to an audible level and the bottom surface becomes noticeably warm but stays within safe operating temperatures.
