Rugged 14 field laptop

The DELL Latitude 5424 is a new 14.0-inch FHD touchscreen notebook built to military-grade rugged standards for harsh environments. It runs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Passive cooling and all-day power

The rugged chassis uses specialised materials and high-cycle testing to manage thermals without relying on aggressive fan curves, keeping noise low during typical field workloads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 and the efficient i7-8650U up to 4.20 GHz draw modest power, supported by internal 6- and 9-cell battery options for full-shift runtime.

Sealed ports and glove-ready screen

The toughened direct-view display reaches brightness levels readable in direct sunlight and supports 10-point touch with protective gloves on. Connectivity includes USB 3.0, USB Type-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, a serial port and RJ-45, all sealed against dust and moisture. Optional hot-swap bridge battery extends uptime without shutting down.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256 GB SSD in the Latitude 5424 and what step is often missed?

The 256 GB SSD is already fitted from the factory; no installation is required. The step people miss is re-enabling BitLocker encryption after any drive change so the 16 GB DDR4 memory and Windows 10 Pro stay protected.

What maintenance or replacement will the 14.0 inch FHD touchscreen need later?

The 1920 x 1080 touchscreen has no user-serviceable parts; only the internal 6- or 9-cell battery pack is designed for later replacement to keep all-day runtime.

What limit appears first on the Intel UHD Graphics 620 during sustained heavy use?

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares the 16 GB DDR4 memory and hits its thermal ceiling before the i7-8650U reaches its 4.20 GHz turbo, capping 3D performance.
