Built for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5590 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen ultrabook designed for professionals who need reliable performance on the move. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. Storage combines a 512 GB M.2 drive with a 2 TB secondary SSD for ample capacity. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel supports touch input for flexible interaction.

Thermals and daily power use

The slim chassis measuring .9 inches at the front houses the 15 watt U-series chip and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. In typical office workloads the cooling system runs quietly while drawing modest power from the battery. Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth handle wireless connectivity without adding thermal load. Three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one with PowerShare, plus a USB Type-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode provide peripheral options.

Behaviour under sustained load

During extended multi-core tasks the quad-core processor can reach 3.60 GHz within its thermal envelope. The integrated graphics share system memory so heavy visual work will reduce bandwidth available to CPU cores. The dual SSD arrangement keeps read and write speeds consistent when large datasets are processed continuously. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance or more than 16 GB of memory should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

How do I install the secondary 2TB SSD in the Dell Latitude 5590, and which step is commonly missed?

Insert the M.2 drive into the secondary slot at an angle, secure it with the retention screw, and ensure the thermal pad makes contact; people often forget the screw.

What maintenance will the dual SSD configuration need over time?

Run TRIM periodically via Windows Optimize Drives, keep firmware updated through Dell Command Update, and monitor SMART health for both the 512GB primary and 2TB secondary drives.

Which limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the i5-8350U?

The 15W TDP ceiling throttles the quad-core CPU from 3.60 GHz boost clocks down to base 1.70 GHz once the cooling solution saturates.
