The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14 inch business laptop built around a quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor. It ships with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 touchscreen and Windows 10 Pro complete a compact, ready-to-work package.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Mobile professionals needing a light 1.4 kg chassis, a responsive touch display and enough RAM for multitasking will appreciate this device. Buyers who want discrete graphics for gaming or rendering, a larger screen or user-replaceable storage should consider other options.

The spec that decides fit

The integrated graphics chipset is the single specification that determines whether this Latitude 7490 matches your workload. If your daily tasks rely on GPU acceleration, this system will not deliver; if general office productivity is the priority, the specification is sufficient.

Questions about this item

Does the 7490 need a separate power adapter, or can it charge from a USB-C dock?

The laptop includes an AC power port and a USB Type-C port; the supplied AC adapter is required for charging, while the USB-C port can carry power when used with a compatible Dell Business Dock such as the WD15.

Will my existing USB 3.0 flash drives and HDMI monitor work with the four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and the HDMI output?

Yes, the four USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports are backward compatible with USB 3.0 devices, and the HDMI port supports external displays up to the panel's native 1920 x 1080 resolution.

How can I confirm the 14.0" touchscreen and Windows 10 Pro are functioning correctly after first boot?

Open Settings > System > Display to verify the 1920 x 1080 resolution and touch input, then check Settings > System > About for the i7-8650U processor, 16 GB memory, 512 GB SSD and Windows 10 Pro edition.
